CFH at the AHA

This past January, many members of CFH who attended the annual meeting of the American Historical Association in Washington DC enjoyed a breakfast reception on Saturday morning. As always, it was a great time for networking and catching up with fellow members. We had a strong turn out from our graduate student membership and many took advantage of the panel session which followed.

Introducing Lauran Kerr

In September of 2007, the excutive board appointed Lauran Kerr to serve as incoming Graduate Student Representative. She is working along side Jared Burkholder, the outgoing grad rep, until September of 2008 when she will take over full responsibilities. Lauran is a doctoral candidate in the Department of History at the University of Houston. She holds a B.A. in Social Sciences and an M.A. in History from Sam Houston State University, and the Women's Studies Graduate Certificate from the University of Houston. Her dissertation research focuses on African American women in medicine. Lauran also works as a student advisor and events assistant for the Women's Studies Program at UH and an officer for the UH Not For Sale Project, an anti-human trafficking initiative. Her fiance, Eric, is in literary criticism and together they plan to be in school forever. Outside of academia, Lauran teaches WholyFit and serves as a deacon in her church.
